What documents are needed to enter Morocco?

Foreign citizens wishing to enter Morocco must have a passport valid for 6 months from the date of entry into the country. National identity cards are not recognized for entering Moroccan territory. Travelers from Europe, United States, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Russia, Japan, Turkey, United Arab Emirates do not need a visa and can stay in the country for a maximum of 90 days. What is the currency of Morocco? Can I pay in euros/dollars?

The currency of Morocco is the dirham (approximately 1 euro = 10 dirhams). In tourist areas it is still possible to pay in euros and dollars, although we advise you to change from euros into dirhams upon entering the area, always at recognized banks and/or agencies, especially to avoid unfavorable exchange rates.

Morocco is a safe country and Moroccans have always been known for their warm hospitality. Are particular vaccines required for entry into the country?

In general, no vaccinations are required for foreign citizens traveling to Morocco. Some vaccines could however be useful to protect the individual health of travellers. It is therefore advisable to contact your doctor in case of specific problems.

Can I travel during Ramadan?

Ramadan is a unique time to visit Morocco. After sunset, the cities fill with life and the scent of traditional dishes fills the streets, you will often be invited to drink tea. Shops are sometimes closed during the day, while public offices follow reduced hours. Do I have to pay particular attention to my clothing?

In general, Morocco is a very tolerant country and there are no specific restrictions or obligations in terms of clothing. Despite this, especially in smaller villages and more traditional contexts, we invite you to avoid too low-cut clothes, shorts, etc.

Can I withdraw, make purchases or pay by debit or credit card?

You can withdraw money almost anywhere in Morocco, except in smaller villages and around the desert, where it can be very difficult to find an ATM or bank. Paying by debit or credit card is a fairly rare opportunity, however more frequent as long as you move around the city. In general, we recommend that you always carry cash with you for any unexpected expenses or last minute purchases.

What do you need to bring for trekking?

Here is a short list of the essential equipment to take with you for a trek in Morocco: backpack up to 40 litres, depending on the season (in summer a 20 liter backpack should be sufficient); shoulder bag or backpack; sleeping bag; good trekking shoes (preferably with ankle support); windbreaker and raincoat; preferably wrap-around sunglasses; sportswear depending on the season; head torch; trekking poles; gloves, scarf and hat depending on the season. 

The degree of physical preparation necessary for a trek varies depending on the route and the time of year. We offer different trekking itineraries with different levels of difficulty.
