Marrakech–Essaouira
After breakfast, visit the pearl of Morocco,Essaouira. Along the Atlantic coast of Morocco, west of Marrakech, lies the city of Essaouria, famous above all for its sensational Medina on the sea, registered on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The fortress, the white and iridescent walls, the relaxation of its inhabitants, the Kasbah, the artisan shops, make this city unique and with a European flavour: in 1756 the French made it a perfect example of military architecture and enriched it with walls, towers , bastions and gates, managing to perfectly combine the Arab-Muslim culture with that of overseas.
The Medina of Essaouira is a magnificent, excellently preserved example of 18th century European military architecture in North Africa. Its foundation occurred relatively late compared to other medinas in North Africa but it immediately became the main Moroccan commercial center. Inside the Medina of Essaouira we find unique architectural masterpieces including the remains of the Mogador, the Portuguese fortress from the 1500s partially dismantled to make room for an esplanade for cannons, and the signs of the Phoenician commercial settlement. The city was composed of three separate neighborhoods, the Kasbah including the old administrative district, the Medina, crossed by two main axial streets, one running from Bab Doukalla to the port and the other from Bab Marrakech to the sea, and the Mellah, the Jewish quarter
